FALL PLAY: PUFFS

Fall Play: PUFFS Or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic (Two Act Version for Young Wizards) by Matt Cox

Description: The Hoover drama department is presenting the play, “PUFFS” a parody of a very well-known story.

For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs… who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.

Details: 

Performance Dates: November 1st at 7 PM, 2nd at 7 PM, and 3rd at 2 PM. Doors open 30 minutes before the show starts.

Location: Hoover Drama Auditorium

Adults: $8

Middle School Programing 24-25

Middle school play in a day

Description: Meredith middle school students get out of school for the entire day, and they will participate in workshops directed by high school students. This workshop series will end in a public performance for parents at 4:30 in the Hoover Auditorium. Lunch and snacks will be provided for the students.

Date: November 20th from 8:15-6 PM (registration is due by November 15th).

Middle School One Act Play

Auditions: November 25th or 26th from 3:30-4:45 Just show up and we will get you in for auditions. In room 1180.

Rehearsals: Monday-Thursday 3:30-5:00PM

First Rehearsal: Monday December 2nd at 3:30.

IHSSA 24-25

The Iowa High School Speech Competition is a competition where Hoover students create, rehearse, and perform their medium of theatre for feedback and guidance to continue to perfect their craft. Students have opportunities to compete at the district, state, and all-state level. Below is information on this season, competitions, and meetings.

IHSSA  Schedule:

September 24th: IHSSA Large Group Informational Meeting/ Signups (signups due October 4th) Room 1180 from 3:30-4:15

October 17th:  IHSSA Individuals Informational Meeting 1180 from 3:30-4:15 (signups due November 6th)

November 7th: IHSSA Musical Theater Auditions and Acting Auditions 3:30-4:30

November 8th: IHSSA Cast List Posted/ Finalized (part of this list will be sent out earlier for recorded events)

November 18th: First IHSSA Rehearsal (All casted are required to attend)

November 18th- January 3rd: Weekly rehearsals (2-3 depending on group) at various times based on students’ availability. Typically, between 3:30-5:30 Monday-Friday.

Jan. 7th and 8th: IHSSA Tech Rehearsals for Showcase 3:30-6 PM (all called involved in IHSSA)

Jan 9th: IHSSA Showcase at 6PM. Free admission- open to the public! (Snow date- January 10th)

Jan. 25th: IHSSA Large Group District Competition (All Day 7AM-5:30, times and location TBA)

Feb. 8th: IHSSA Large Group State Competition (All Day 7AM-5:30, times and location TBA)

Feb. 22nd: IHSSA All-State Competition at ISU (All Day 7AM-5:30, times and location TBA)

Mar. 1st: IHSSA Individual District Competition (All Day 7AM-5:30, times and location TBA)

March 15th: IHSSA Individual State Competition (All Day 7AM-5:30, times and location TBA)

March 31st: All State Individual Competition at UNI (All Day 7AM-5:30, times and location TBA)

SPRING MUSICAL: Newsies The Musical

Description: Music by: Alan Menken, Lyrics by Jack Feldman, Book by Harvey Fierstein

Based on the Disney film written by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White.

It’s time to carry the banner on your stage with Disney’s Newsies! Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!

Meredith Middle School students are more than welcome to audition!

Dance Auditions/ Workshop: November 11th OR 12th from 3:30-5:30

Singing Workshop: November 11th OR 12th from 3:30-5:30

Singing Auditions: November 14th from 3:45-5:30

Callbacks: November 15th (if needed)

Rehearsal Information: 

First Rehearsal/ Info Meeting: November 18th 3:30-6:30

Official Rehearsals: February 3rd from 3:30-6:30 in the Choir Room (after this date, Monday-Friday from 3:30-6:30 with some weekend dance calls)

Performance information: 

April 25th at 7PM, April 26th at 2PM and 7:30 PM, April 27th at 2PM.
