Students compete in a variety of different speech and debate competition events at tournaments throughout Iowa and around the country, including dramatic and humorous interpretation, extemporaneous speaking, informative speaking, congressional debate, public forum debate, and many others. Tournaments take place beginning in September and run throughout the school year. Students learn valuable skills in public speaking, forming arguments, research, writing, and critical thinking. Students practice during the week after school and compete on weekends at tournaments around the Greater Des Moines Area, throughout Iowa, and around the country.
