Hoover Band Supports Awareness

On October 7, 2016, the Hoover Marching band performed a Pink Out program in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. At the game they asked everyone for a donation to help support this cause. With each donation a band member put a pink plume in their hat for the halftime performance. The money raised will go directly to Susan G Komen of Iowa. Komen of Iowa’s mission is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cure. They empower residents with information about the importance of early detection and breast health. They donate 75 percent of net funds raised to vital local breast health services, and dedicate the remaining 25 percent to national research to find the cure. Komen Iowa is the local source for funding programs that provide breast health services, breast cancer education, and outreach in their 91 county service area. At the end of the collection, the Hoover Band had collected over $180 to go to this great cause.

On October 8, 2016, the Hoover band performed for the start of the annual Walk to Defeat ALS. The band had the honor of being the first under the starting archway as walkers followed behind to a performance area where the band stayed to play some encouraging songs as participants passed by. Hoover is proud to be able to support those who fight Lou Gehrig’s disease and hopes to continue doing work to support our community.
