About the Ace Mentoring Program:

The Ace program of Central Iowa (ACE C-IA) was established in the fall of 2005.  The program has gone from one team of 12 students and 5 mentors at Roosevelt to 75 students, 36 mentors and four teams from twelve Metro-area high schools.  All of the mentors are professionals in their industry.  Ace is offered Free of charge to all participating students and their schools.

How ACE works:

Students are recruited from their respective high schools and placed into teams with students from other high schools.  Each team is led by a team of local professionals.  Teams meet after school for about an hour and a half one day a week for 16 weeks between late October to early March.

During this time, students work closely with their mentors to learn about what an architect, contractor, and engineers do.  They visit professional offices and job sites throughout the program while taking on their own design project.

At the end of the program, students present their work to, parents, teachers, friends, and local industry leaders in a ceremony which celebrates the students’ accomplishments and rewords outstanding students with college scholarships.

In the six years Hoover has been a part of this program, Hoover students have won $8,000 in scholarships.  It has grown to $12,000 in scholarships this year.
