Mandarin Chinese Offered at Hoover Next Year

Next fall Hoover will welcome a Chinese exchange teacher! A grant obtained through the Teachers of Critical Languages Program allows Hoover to begin introducing students to Mandarin Chinese next fall.

Students have an opportunity this week in advisory to express interest in taking an introductory Mandarin Chinese class next year. While we want to give as many students as possible the option of taking Chinese, it’s important to keep in mind a student’s current status as a foreign language learner. Some universities require students to complete two years of a single foreign language for admission.

Ninth or 10th grade students will be able to select Chinese to meet this requirement.

Eleventh grade students should consider the two-year requirement imposed by some universities.
