Hoover STARS Day

If a photo is worth a thousands words, than the images below say a lot of good things about our students at Hoover High School.

For the fourth year in a row, Hoover students took part in the STARS (Sharing Talents and Resources through Service) Day of Service learning project.

In recognition of Global Youth Service Day, over 130 students and 16 staff members participated in service projects around the community. Small groups of service learners traveled to 12 sites throughout the community, including:

  • Animal Rescue League
  • Beaverdale Estates
  • Bishop Drumm Care Center
  • Children & Families Urban Ministries
  • DMARC Food Pantry
  • Gigi’s Playhouse
  • Hillis Elementary School
  • Living History Farms
  • Monroe Elementary School
  • Samuelson Elementary School
  • Science Center of Iowa
  • Veterans Administration

In addition, students hosted a soccer clinic for Link Associates’ Special Olympians, assisted the Meredith Neighborhood Association’s beautification, and spread mulch on the Hoover campus.

A core group of 10 student leaders have been working on a committee to plan this event with 2 Hoover staff members. These students solicited donations, recruited their peers and have been the lead contacts to the various sites. On STARS Day, students go into the field, serve the community, shadow professionals in specific career areas, and learn about the needs of others in our community.
