Hoover STARS Day of Service Learning

Hoover High School students participated in STARS (Sharing Talents and Resources through Service) Day of Service Learning in recognition of Global Youth Service Day on May 1.

On STARS Day, our students will be in the field serving the community and shadowing professionals in specific career areas,” said Billy Kirby, Hoover High School Gear Up advisor. “While participating in this service opportunity, students will experience hands-on awareness about specific careers and learn about the needs of others in our community.”

Over 100 students participated in service projects throughout the community at:

-Animal Rescue League
-Bishop Drumm Care Center
-DMARC Food Pantry on Douglas Ave.
-Monroe Elementary
-Hillis Elementary
-Living History Farms
-Ronald McDonald House
-Samuelson Elementary
-SCI Preschool
-St. Andrew’s Church
-Westchester City Park
-Young Women’s Resource Center

Other students hosted a soccer clinic at Hoover High School for Link Associates Special Olympians, and another group helped a neighbor to Hoover to rebuild her fence and clean her yard.
